Last weekend’s Summer Bracket Nationals presented by Ogilvie Auto & Fleet Service at Luskville Dragway was a challenging one. The 2nd and 3rd rounds of the Super Tour National Championship were held in collaboration with J&S Collision and Clarmo Auto Repair.
On Friday night, defending Dragster Champ Phil Harvey from St. Calixte, Quebec, parked it in the Winner’s Circle for the second time this season by defeating young Max Gauthier in the final round of the Super Pro Gambler’s Race. Harvey took out his father Jean in the semifinals, while Gauthier had the better of fellow Belleville, Ontario racer Mike Hickey.
In the Footbrake class, Motorcycle Heavy Hitter Larry Lepine Jr. took the win over Quebec City’s Eric Monaghan. Lepine Jr. took care of Steven Clarmo in the semis, and Monaghan defeated Stephen Ballantyne to reach the final round.
Saturday was a complete washout with rain from sunrise to sunset. Super Tour Race Director Arnie Malcolm then decided to hold two back-to-back races on Sunday.
In the first race, 2022 Bracket Bonanza winner and Junior Dragster graduate Brody Bellefeuille from Greely, Ontario, scored his second Super Tour victory by defeating Montreal’s Daniel Lanctot in the final round. Bellefeuille bested Derek Malcolm, while Lanctot took down Red Hot Mike Hickey in the round of four.
In the Footbrake category, first-time winner Jean-Guy Bedard from Chambly was the last man standing when he won over Ray Edgar from North Bay. In the semis, Bedard bested Ashley Muttart, and Edgar took out Jim Hewitt.
Racers went straight into the second race around 3 pm. At the end of the day, veteran racer and Super Tour Power Ranking #1 racer Dale Gauthier from Belleville, Ontario, scored his third Super Tour win on the circuit by defeating Kyle Jessup from Renfrew in an all-Ontario final round. In the round of 4, Dale bested his son Max, while Jessup took out former Super Tour champ Adam Bitzanis from Montreal.
Darryl Jensen from Orleans, Ontario, took home the Footbrake victory over Larry Lepine Jr., who was in his second final this weekend. Jensen defeated Stephan Ballantyne in the semifinal round, and Lepine Jr. took out Dan Allard.
The Junior Dragster contingent saw Parker Segin taking the win over Katie Adams in the first race, and Julia Malcolm winning the second race over Miguel Nadeau.
The next Super Tour event will be the biggest one of the year, as racers will gather once again at Luskville Dragway for the 43rd annual Bracket Bonanza presented by NAPA Auto Parts in collaboration with B&W Race Cars and Lewis Gagné Trucking from August 1 to 4.
