IT’S OVER! LÉPINE JR. CROWNED 2024 FOOTBRAKE CHAMPION

With just two races left in the season, it’s time to assess the points standings and identify which racers still have a shot at etching their names into the record books. However, when it comes to the 2024 Super Tour Footbrake National Championship, the outcome is already clear—Larry Lépine Jr. has officially secured the title!

Last weekend at the Fall Bracket Championship, Lépine, known as the “Bearded Biker” from Gatineau, delivered a stellar performance, pulling ahead by a commanding 15 rounds over his closest competitor. Given that most races typically consist of seven rounds, even if Lépine were to bow out in the first two rounds of both remaining races, his nearest rival, Darryl Jensen, would be unable to catch him— even with back-to-back wins.

While the battle for the championship is over, the fight for positions two through ten is far from settled. Darryl Jensen currently holds second place, four rounds ahead of Stephen Ballantyne, who is closely followed by Noémie Ballabey. Ballabey, with two scores she can still improve, is poised for a potential leap up the standings. Eric Monaghan is also in the mix, just one round behind Ballabey, setting up a tight contest at the Canadian Bracket Finals on September 28th and 29th.

In contrast, the Super Pro category is still wide open. Mike Chénier, also from Gatineau, currently leads the pack after a strong performance last weekend, holding a five-round advantage over Roch Beaudoin of Corbeil, Ontario. Hot on their heels is Dan Lanctôt from St-Eustache, eight rounds off the lead, with defending champion Brock Godmaire also in close pursuit. Other notable contenders in the Door Car category include 2024 event winner Max Gauthier.

On the dragster side, former champion Brandon Barker from Smiths Falls, Ontario, sits atop the standings. Recent race winner and consistent top-three finisher Russ Adams is in second place among the open-bodied cars, while defending dragster champion Phil Harvey boasts two entries in the top 10. Also joining the leaderboard this year is 2024 Bonanza winner Terry Miron.

With top drivers like Chénier, Godmaire, Barker, Adams, Gauthier, Miron, and Harvey all having at least one score of 300 or more to improve, the competition is sure to heat up in the final stretch. Only the best 10 out of 11 races will count toward the final points standings, adding extra excitement to the upcoming showdown.
